Pohang University of Science and Technology Regulations (Graduate School Regulations & Degree Conferment Rules) and Departmental Requirements must both be satisfied.

University Regulations
A. Graduate School Regulations
  • Article 22 (Completion of Program) ① Students who have earned the required credits under Article 23 of these regulations and obtained a GPA of B° (3.0) or higher, and who have registered for at least 3 semesters in the Ph.D. program or 5 semesters in the Integrated program, may be exceptionally recognized as having completed the program. (Revised: 2022.10.18.) ② Students recognized as program-completed under Paragraph 1 and conducting research required for degree conferment may be granted the same rights and obligations as enrolled students.
  • Article 23 (Credits Required for Completion) The minimum credits required for program completion are 28 credits for the Master’s program, 32 credits for the Ph.D. program, and 60 credits for the Integrated program. Each program must satisfy the minimum coursework credits prescribed by the respective department.
B. Graduate School Degree Conferment Rules
  • Article 3 (Requirements for Degree Conferment) Students must complete the program in accordance with the Graduate School Regulations and: 1. Pass the comprehensive examination; 2. As a general rule, publish at least one paper as the first author in an international academic journal recognized by the department. Exceptions based on departmental characteristics require approval by the Graduate School Committee. (Revised: 2007.8.22) 3. Students who pass the dissertation examination shall be awarded the appropriate degree according to Article 2. ※ Requirement 2 applies only to the Ph.D. and Integrated programs.
