Message from the Director

Our program, the Innovative Talent Education & Research Group for a Stable Environment in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, has been selected for the BK21 Phase IV Innovative Talent Training Project in the category of Industry–Society Problem Solving.

A “stable environment” refers to a calm, safe, and peaceful environmental state—an essential factor that determines the quality of life, particularly in densely populated societies such as Korea. Environmental hazards caused by industrial and societal activities, whether accidental or human-induced, are becoming the primary source of environmental instability, with the scale of damage increasing in urban regions. As the Fourth Industrial Revolution—characterized by IoT, big data, smart technologies, machine learning, and artificial intelligence—rapidly unfolds, the need to cultivate outstanding environmental experts has emerged as a key element of national competitiveness. In this era of fast-paced environmental and technological change, proactive and interdisciplinary environmental professionals are essential.

Our Education & Research Group aims to cultivate talents who lead national innovation in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, becoming a graduate program that addresses industrial and societal challenges through demand-driven education. We are conducting extensive research on biological and chemical processes for environmental treatment and decomposition, focusing on building big data systems for environmental information, enhancing public environmental safety, and supporting preventive environmental management for establishing a stable environment.

We carry out a wide spectrum of studies involving biological and chemical treatment to build environmental big data, enhance public environmental safety, and support proactive environmental management for a stable society. Based on our world-class analytical infrastructure and accumulated experience, we analyze and monitor diverse environmental issues found across natural and industrial settings.

Our group leverages an interdisciplinary collaboration system to promote joint research across fields and aims to grow into a top-tier research-focused graduate program ranked within the world’s top 20. We seek to foster highly skilled professionals with global competitiveness who can contribute to national policy and environmental technology development.

The BK21 Innovative Talent Group for a Stable Environment focuses on cultivating global experts capable of solving industrial and societal challenges across the four major environmental fields—water & waste, air pollution, ecological environment, and climate change. Through collaborative and shared-growth programs with local communities and industries, we aim to create social and economic value. Graduates of our program are expected to become creative and interdisciplinary leaders who drive the Fourth Industrial Revolution and strengthen Korea’s national competitiveness.
